God Rewards Our Sacrifice in Prayer & Fasting
Jesus told us in Matthew 6, "when you give to the needy", "when you pray" and "when you fast". He assumes that we will do these three things. Jesus calls these acts of righteousness. They are acts of right living as we do them with a heart to please God and seek Him.
At the end of each of these three sections is a promise that Jesus. The promise is that our Father, "will reward you". There is a reward for doing these things before God. And His rewards fill the desires of our heart. ...Seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you.
For our Father knows the desires of your heart! And His rewards are good. It is worth the time and effort, even the discomfort and discipline to fast, pray and give to the needy! For He rewards us, and His rewards are good.
In my own life God has stepped in to bring blessings, rewards and healing through the time of prayer and fasting. I have even watched Him step into people's marriages and engagements with insight and understanding into problems that exist. He did it for Daniel in the old testament as well, when Daniel sought God in prayer and fasting (Daniel 9, 10). Marriages have been healed, families won to Christ, blinders removed from people's eyes so they accept the good gifts God has. Nations have been healed, protected and delivered from their enemies as His people united in earnest repentance in prayer and fasting. Joel 1 and 2 is just one of the examples from the Bible.
Time and again throughout history God has worked in miraculous ways to bring breakthrough, spiritual awakening, growth and revival in people. The result has often been seen in drug dealers finally coming to justice, mighty spiritual awakenings in personal lives, churches and even our nation. Churches have been filled, saloons emptied, jails left empty and blinders torn off people's understanding when His people humble themselves and earnestly seek Him in prayer and fasting and unity. In perseverance there are blessings and breakthrough that come mightily!
There is power when we seek God. And fasting adds an extra blessing and power to it. For our God is awesome and He desires to reward His children. There is hope for your prodigals, for your own healing and even for our nation as we seek Him earnestly.
If Jesus needed to fast and pray before His public ministry began, why then we surely need it as well! (Luke 4)
